Longtime resident and former city council candidate Kate Connolly announces her candidacy for Mayor of New Port Richey

Kate Connolly grew up in greater New Port Richey and studied Political Science at the University of South Florida. An involved member of her community, Kate’s activism spans the Tampa Bay area. She has worked with AmeriCorps tutoring Title 1 students, advocated for public transportation access, and promoted low-income healthcare services. In 2018, she served on the New Port Richey Cultural Affairs Committee. In 2021, Kate ran for city council to extend the reach of her community service. Coming up just short in that election, Kate continued at Stetson Law in an ongoing pursuit to tackle her community’s most pressing issues.

Kate’s passion for New Port Richey motivated her decision to run for Mayor. “I’m running for Mayor because I love our city, and I know we can do even better to grow together and improve the quality of life for all residents. We’re well on our way with big goals, especially downtown, but there are still many gaps to fill.”

With a background in activism, Kate understands the role of Mayor and how to use it to shape a government based on diplomacy, history, and transparency. “I believe more direct engagement, communication, and positive relations are what our community needs to thrive. We need to be meeting with our local families and businesses. They are the backbone of our community.”

As Mayor of New Port Richey, Kate will focus on developing safer neighborhoods through street projects and police patrol improvements, reviewing local grant and marketing resources that empower small businesses to grow and collaborate, and creating an official Sustainability Program to generate funds for environmental resiliency.
